Chitrakalpa Art Institute is working successfully for the last 50 years and isleading Art Institute which it proves the strength of the foundation which the infrastructure of the institute is based. Late Shri. Gangadhar Krishnarao Apte established the institute in 1961 in Pune as household art classes. Then his son Shri. Anand G. Apte a school teacher introduced various creative courses, helping the institute grow in all direction of art forms.
He celebrated silver jubilee of the institute and 1st Art exhibition in 1985 to encourage the creativity and potential of the students. The tradition continues till date. Now Shri. Milind A. Apte the third generation is playing a significant role in developing/ expanding the institute. Today the institute has 7 branches all over the city with its main branch at Sadashiv Peth. The institute has been following the tradition of awarding the grade achievers of the elementary and intermediate examinations.

पूर्वापार चालत आलेल्या, माणसाला ज्ञात असलेल्या आपल्या चौसष्ट कलांपैकी चित्रकला ही साऱ्या जगभरात प्रसिद्ध असणारी दृश्य कला. एखाद्या माणसाला भले दुसऱ्या भाषेतील लिखाण वाचता येणार नाही, बोलणे समजणार नाही, पण चित्रकला हे माध्यम जगभरातल्या लोकांना जोडते. समोरचे चित्र पाहून प्रत्येकजण आपापल्या मगदुराप्रमाणे का होईना , पण चित्रकाराच्या भावना समजून घेऊ शकतातच. कुणीसे म्हटले आहे की, उत्तम चित्रकार असेल किंवा नसेल , पण प्रत्येक माणूस हा चित्र काढू शकतोच . मग या माणसाला जरा प्रशिक्षण दिले तर बरेच चांगले चित्रकार घडू शकतात असा विचार करून चित्रकलेचे औपचारिक शिक्षण देण्यास सुरुवात झाली . अनेक चित्रकार शिक्षक बनले आणि त्यांनी विद्यार्थ्यांच्या पिढ्या घडवल्या. यात एक नाव होते आपटे यांची ‘ चित्रकल्प आर्ट इन्स्टीट्यूट ‘ . १९६१ साली चित्रकार असणारे गोपाळ हायस्कूलमधील निवृत्त शिक्षक कै . आनंद आपटे यांनी आपल्या घरी विद्यार्थांसाठी चित्रकलेचे वर्ग घेण्यास सुरुवात केली. हसत खेळत चालणाऱ्या या घरगुती वर्गांना लवकरच भरघोस प्रतिसाद मिळू लागल्यावर त्यांचे चिरंजीव मिलींद आपटे हे सुद्धा त्यात चित्रकला शिकवू लागले.”
