As such there are no clear cut regulations and standards
set down by the International Organization for Standardization
or any other organization for that that matter. However,
the ISO 9000: 2001 is a standard which is set down
for business organizations. In the context of Packers
and Movers the most relevant standard will be the
ISO 9002 which is deemed as the most appropriate for
organizations which are not engaged in designing and
developing their products. This standard caters to
the installation and the servicing offered.
It is not mandatory for every company to be certified
by this standard, but ISO 9000 compliant companies
are definitely better off than their counterparts.
All the material used by the Packers should be ISO
certified. The same goes for the mode of transport
being used for moving the goods.
For example the ISO 15378:2006 sets the guidelines
for packaging of medicinal products. Thus, if your
company is involved in the production of drugs it
is essential that while transportation it complies
with this standard.
The ANSI / ESD S541 is a standard which refers to
the packaging of electrical equipment. Standards are
also made pertaining to other kinds of packing material
like moisture sensitive items and fragile loads.
Many of the Packers and Movers businesses offer warehousing
services as well. Though this is a different branch
of servicing all together in such cases the warehouses
have to be compatible to the respective ISO standards
set down for types of warehousing.
One thing which is to be noted while availing such
services is to explore all the insurances which they
claim to cover. In case of damaged goods at the time
of delivery then the customer is well within his rights
to pursue legal action against the company.
