modern times almost everybody needs medical  attention
some time or the other. If you have to under go any
kind of operation apart from the surgeon you should
be confident about the instruments that he is going
to use. The confidence comes from the fact that the
instruments used are of a very good quality.
World over the quality consciousness has increased.
The International Standards Organization or the ISO
is one such organization which has specifications
about the quality of the surgical instruments.
If the surgical instruments manufacturer has obtained
the ISO certificate then you are sure that you are
getting good quality stuff. ISO/TC 170 is a wing of
ISO which is responsible for the setting of the standards
for non-active medical devices. It develops test methods,
performance standards and specifications.
Bureau of Indian Standards or BIS has also set up
standards for surgical instruments. Medical Equipment
and Hospital Planning Division Council (MHDC) is responsible
for the standardization of all types of surgical instruments.
American
National Standards Institute (ANSI) also has standards
for surgical instruments. So does the British. In short
all over the world there are standards maintained for
the surgical instruments and most of the manufacturers
abide by the rules as the end user the patient might
be his kin. |
