Mandir |
| A
majestic monumental memorial to the Gaekwad rulers Kirti
Mandir means "Temple of Fame". It was built by Maharaja
Sayajirao III in 1936 AD in the Hindu style to perpetuate
the glorious memories of his beloved ancestors. It is
an "E" shaped building with an elegant interior structure
in marble finish with domes, terraces, balconies &
a central shikhara. Nationally noted painter Nandalal
Bose has personally executed beautiful mural paintings
in this building. |

Vilas Palace |
| This
is the one of the finest buildings in Vadodra designed
in the Indo-Sarcenic style of architecture by Maharaja
Sayajirao III. The construction of the palace commenced
in 1878 AD. palace to date happens to be the residence
of Royal Family. The interior of the Laxmi Vilas Palace
has an exquisite finishing in marble, mosaic, fine stone,
glass, wood & also has some of the most valuable furnishings,
It's ornate Darbar HAll has an Italian mosaic floor &
walls with mosaic decorations. Maharaja's personal museum
is also housed in the same premises which has a remarkable
collection is also housed in the same premises which has
a remarkable collection of old armoury & sculptures
in bronze, marble & terracotta. Built in 700 acre
area the palace has an executive Art Gallery with original
paintings by Indian & western painters which include
Raja Ravi Verma & Nicholas Roerich. |

Laheri Pura Gate
|
| This
is a picturesque gate with three large arched openings
forming the western gateway of the fortified medieval
town of Vadodra. Noted classical singers, shanai &
sarangi players used to render their art from the gallery
of this gate at daybreak. Other such gates includes the
Pani Gate & the Champener Gate. |

Maharaja Fatehsinghrao Gaekwad

| This
museum has a fabulous collection of art objects, paintings,
sculptures etc. gathered by late Maharaja Sayajirao III
which include original paintings by old masters like Raphael,
Titan, Aurillo & of India's celebrated artist Raja
Ravi Verma. Some rare & antique furniture is veneered
with expensive woods & ornamented with rich Ormolu.
The engravings are of original Mezzotints of the paintings
of then famous painter Angelica Kauffmann. The armour
room called Shastrakaar holds various swords, shields
daggers & guns used by the Maharajas of Gaekwad family.
Formerly known as the Moti Baug school, this museum was
opened to the public since April 1961, since it's inauguration
by then governor of Gujrat, the late Nawab Mehdi Nawaz
Jung. |

| Maharaja
Sayajirao III laid the foundation of the Baroda College.
Today this institution popularly known as MSU has blossomed
into the residential university of Vadodra, well known
in India & abroad as a place of learning. It has a
number of faculties offering opportunities for higher
studies to more than 3000 students every year. This university
has many faculties & departments having rich diversity
of courses for study for students from India & abroad. |

| Mandwi,
meaning "the pavillon" used for tax collection is derived
from the Sanskrit word " Mandapika". It was the centre
of the fortified city since 1511 AD. This palace was used
to announce all important govt. proclamations & also
the announcement of the new ruler upon the demise of the
old. It is the centre of four darwajas namely the Champner
gate on the North side, Gendi gate in the South, Pani
gate in the East & Laheripura gate on the western
side. |

in Renaissance Architecture presently homes the Railway
staff college. The college has a working which shows complicated
rail operations. |

| Spread
over a sprawling area of 113 acres of land & constructed
in the year 1879 Maharaja Sayajirao III, this garden popularly
known as Kamatibaug. The garden has an excellent zoo,
a planetarium, a health museum, a picture gallery, fountains,
lawns, & a wide variety of plants & trees. The
live floral clock, first of all its kind in Gujarat, with
underground mechanism consists of hours, minute &
seconds hands which move on 20 feet diameter dial. One
of main attractions happens to be the locomotive toytrain
running over track of about 3.5 kms. giving children
the entire view of the garden. |

civilizations. It is also well known for housing a skeleton
of a Blue Whale & an Egyptian Mummy. |
