& comprise of chaples & monasteries, some of which
bear specimens of beautiful sculpture. Open from sunrise

| Ajanta
Caves |
| The
thirty rock hewn caves at Ajanta cut into the scrap of
a cliff are either Chaityas(chaples) or Viharas(monasteries)
most of these are carved so that a flood of natural light
pours into them at given times of the day. Both the Facade
& the inside of the chambers faithfully reproduce
the structural patterns known to those ancient builders.
On the walls are paintings, many still glowing with their
original colours. The outer walls are covered with many
brilliantly featured sculptures.

| Daulatabad Fort

Kms. Built by Bhilam Raja of Yadav Dynasty in 1187. It
was then called Deogiri. Considered one of the oldest
existing & impregnable forts of India. Emperor Mahammad-bin-Tughlaq
renamed to Daulatabad & brought his capital here temporarily.
Amongst its remarkable features are a deep moat, the scrap
& spiral passage all hewn out of solid rock. |

| Ellora |
| About
30kms away from Aurungabad is another sickle shaped hill
hewn into temples & monasteries. Ajanta-Ellora shrines
are chiselled into perfection between the 4th & 9th
centuries AD are not exclusively Buddhist, but of the
Hindu temples carved between the 6th & 9th centuries
are marvellously elaborate.

| Grishneshwar Temple

| This
is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines dedicated to Lord
Shiva & sacred to Hindus. A fair is held each
year on Mahashivratri Day. |

| The
austere tomb of Emperor Aurangazeb is situated here. Nearby
is also a Mughal garden called Bani Begum Ka Baug. |

| Mhaismal |
| Mhaismal
is a village which is located about 12 km from Khuldabad.
Original name of Mhaismal is "Maheshmal" It
is situated about 3500 ft above sea level. At the center
of the village is a beautiful temple of a goddess. In
front of the temple there is a beautiful lake. An
ancient temple of Girijmata is also in the village. An
exact replica of Lord Balaji Temple at Tirupathi is also
completed just near. |

| Panchakki |
| The
pre-Mughal monument is a watermill where water was harnessed
to turn large grinding stones & it served as a flour
mill in olden days. The tomb of Baba Shah Musafir can
also be visited. |

| Paithan |
| The
ancient city of Pratisthan now Paithan was the seat of
Satvahana dynasty who ruled from 2nd century BC to 2nd
century AD. Situated on banks of Sacred river Godavari
the little town is famous for shrine of Sant Eknath which
lends its special spiritual ambience. Every year Nath
Shasthi which usually falls in the month of March a big
fair is held called Paithan Yatra. Paithan is also famous
for its gold & silver embroidered saris.

| The Kailasa Temple

most remarkable of carved shrines at Ellora is the Kailasa
Temple. It is some 50 mtrs in length 33 mtrs & 30
mtrs high. The fantastic edifice has been chiselled out
by hand from single rock with gateway, pavillion, courtyard,
assembly-hall- all out of rock. |
